The Clean Air Action program is a voluntary emission reduction program that has been successful in West Michigan and in other large metropolitan areas. On days when the region is particularly vulnerable to exceeding recommended levels of ozone and particulate matter according to the Air Quality Index, local media and the West Michigan Clean Air Coalition will notify citizens and businesses to take extra precautions to avoid creating additional pollution. While Clean Air Action days are most likely to occur on sunny, calm days during the spring and summer when the temperature exceeds 80°, they can occur any day of the year.
Please do your part and become notified either by calling the WMCAC hotline or signing up to receive e-mail notifications of Clean Air Action days. Working together, West Michigan residents can make a significant difference in improving our air quality.
The West Michigan Clean Air Coalition is a partnership of businesses, academic institutions, government agencies, industry, and non-profit organizations in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, and Kalamazoo counties working together to achieve cleaner air in the region through the education and promotion of voluntary emission reduction activities.
